Catholic priest flies into the ocean
Guatemala News.Net Saturday 5th July, 2008
A Brazilian Roman Catholic priest, Father Adelir de Carli, who flew over the Atlantic Ocean in a bizarre event, is believed to have drowned.
The body has been found in the Atlantic by workers from a Brazilian oil company.
The workers say the body, which they found 1,000 km from the port city of Paranagua, was dressed in the garb of a priest.
On 20 April, Father De Carli lifted off from Paranagua strapped to 1,000 helium-filled party balloons.
He wanted to break a 19-hour world record for flying with party balloons in order to raise money for amenities for local truck drivers.
High winds blew him off course and, using electronic communications, he said that he had run into difficulties.
Later a search party found burst balloons, but no sign of Father de Carli.
