TEGUCIGALPA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Honduras has registered 91,078 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 2,596 deaths, according to the latest official report on the pandemic.
Figures released by the National Risk Management System (Sinager) said the fatality rate stood at 2.86 percent and some 36,341 former COVID-19 sufferers in Honduras have recovered from the disease.
In a nationally broadcast address Wednesday night, Sinager spokeswoman Sonia Reyes said 717 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized, including 556 in stable condition, 135 seriously ill and 26 in intensive care.
Honduras is relying on medical brigades going house-to-house in COVID-19 hotspots to detect infections and isolate them in a bid to contain the spread of the disease.
Honduras opened its border-crossings on Monday, but establishments such as movie theaters, bars and gyms remain closed, and public gatherings of more than 50 people are still banned.
