LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- With no new major competition, Open Road's action thriller film "The Marksman" topped the North American box office for a second-straight weekend with 2.03 million U.S. dollars from 2,018 theaters between Friday and Sunday, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

Directed by Robert Lorenz and starring Liam Neeson, the film follows a hardened U.S. rancher living in an Arizona border town who helps an 11-year-old boy escape a Mexican drug cartel.

"The Marksman" holds an approval rating of 34 percent based on 68 reviews to date on review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

Only 35 percent of North American theaters are currently open as the industry has been devastated by COVID-19. Major Hollywood studios continue to delay their blockbusters due to the pandemic.
