CALI, Colombia, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Colombia climbed to the top of the Junor Pan American Games medal table here on Thursday with triumphs in athletics, baseball, and speed-skating.
The host nation's seven gold medals for the day included four speed-skating victories as Gabriela Rueda, Juan Mantilla, Valeria Rodriguez and Salomon Carballo won the 10,000m women's, 10,000m men's, one lap women's and one lap men's events, respectively.
Colombia also claimed two athletics gold medals through Jennifer Rodriguez in the women's high jump and the women's 4x100m relay team.
The results mean Colombia now has 44 gold medals, one more than second-placed Brazil. Next is Mexico (35), the United States (35) and Cuba (23).
The latter added another six gold medals to the 10 it won on Wednesday by standing on the top of the podium for women's and men's hurdles, the heptathlon, freestyle wrestling and table tennis.
