RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras is interested in signing Mexican international defender Carlos Salcedo from Tigres UANL, according to media reports in Brazil.

The 28-year-old is tied to the Liga MX club until December 31 this year but could be tempted to join the reigning Copa Libertadores champions, Globo Esporte said on Monday.

It added that Palmeiras have initiated talks with Salcedo's representatives though an official proposal has not yet been made.

Salcedo, who can play at center-back, left-back or right-back, has been capped 48 times for Mexico's national team in a career that has included spells at Fiorentina and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Most of Palmeiras' squad returned to training after their summer break last week. The Sao Paulo giants will begin their 2022 season with a clash against Gremio Novorizontino in the Paulista championship on January 23.
