QUITO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese manager Renato Paiva has left Ecuador's Independiente del Valle to join Mexican club Leon.
"I've just signed a contract with Leon. It makes me proud and happy that a big club from such a great league (Liga MX) has shown interest [in me]," the 52-year-old told Diblu Radio on Friday.
"I believe it's the right decision for me because of the club's facilities, the youth system, the ambition and a squad that has great potential."
Paiva guided Independiente del Valle to 32 wins, 13 draws and 15 losses after joining the club from Benfica's B team in January 2021.
He will replace Ariel Holan at Leon after the club failed to reach the current Liga MX Clausura playoffs. The next edition of Mexico's top flight is scheduled to start on July 1.
