RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has arrived in his native Brazil to begin treatment on a hamstring injury that is expected to sideline him for at least six weeks.

The 28-year-old will undergo a tailored recovery program under the supervision of Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar at Atletico Mineiro's training center in Belo Horizonte.

"With the support of the best club medical department in Brazil, [Guimaraes] is preparing to return to the pitch in top form," Atletico said in a social media post alongside images of the midfielder at the facility. "We hope you'll be back soon, Bruno!" it added.

The Brazil international sustained the injury in the final minutes of Newcastle's 2-1 Premier League win at Tottenham last Tuesday.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe said the midfielder would likely be unavailable until early April in a best-case scenario.

Guimaraes will aim to be fully fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, which begins on June 11.
