ACCRA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's men's football national team, the Black Stars, lost 2-0 to World Cup co-host Mexico in an international friendly on Friday night (local time) in Puebla, Mexico.

Playing without its recently appointed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz and most of the key players, Ghana conceded in just the second minute of the match, when Brian Gutierrez scored for the host.

The Black Stars put themselves together while trailing, but could not find the equalizer before halftime.

Gutierrez doubled the lead for Mexico in the 54th minute. Ghana assistant coach Desmond Ofei made multiple substitutions, but the team could not find a consolation goal.

It's the third loss for Ghana in pre-World Cup friendlies, having gone down to Austria and Germany last month.

The West Africans will next play their final friendly against Wales in Cardiff on June 2.

Ghana, making their fifth World Cup Finals appearance, has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia in the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
