ESPN Deportes presents Maria Full of Strength, a bilingual documentary chronicling the inspiring journey of Maria Jose Favela, a rising mixed martial artist from Mexico whose world was upended by a Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis. The film will premiere Thursday, Dec. 11 on ESPN Deportes at 9 p.m. ET and air Saturday, Dec. 13 on ESPN2 following the UFC Fight Like Hell card.
Produced by ESPN Deportes, in both English and Spanish, Maria Full of Strength captures Favela's relentless pursuit of her dreams amid a life-altering health battle. At the peak of her promising career, Favela was diagnosed with cancer. Rather than stepping away from the sport, she faced treatment with unwavering resolve and leaned on a strong support system of family, friends and fellow fighters. Through emotional interviews and personal footage, the film offers an intimate look at Favela's physical and mental journey to reclaim her place in the cage.
The film is part of ESPN's 19th Annual V Week for Cancer Research, which helps fundraise for the V Foundation for Cancer Research and supports efforts to accelerate cancer research and awareness.
Maria Full of Strength will be available to stream, in both languages, on the ESPN App following the television premiere.
